Nimbus Charles

Mission Statement: Takin’ the ruff with the smooth!

A fresh player on the field of media music, Nimbus is a London based producer, musician, songwriter, and vocalist, having evolved from the early UK hip hop scene in which he started scratch/mix DJ’ing at the age of 17, and created beats by chopping up drum breaks using old twin tape decks before the days of affordable samplers! A successful competitor in the early days of the DMC DJ Mixing Championships, Nimbus also played festivals and toured with the UK Hip Hop group Raucous, with their single “Run Baby Run” being one of the first UK Hip Hop tracks to receive heavy rotation on Kiss FM. Nimbus went on to study TV and Broadcasting Studio Systems Engineering at Ravensbourne College, and worked as a TV Studio Engineer before switching his focus back to music by taking up the guitar to studying music theory and guitar technology at The Musicians Institute, London. Having used his knowledge of engineering to build his first music studio from scratch in the late 90’s, Nimbus has been engineering and producing for himself and emerging London talent ever since, as well teaching music technology to those young aspiring future Puff Daddy’s at London’s Lambeth College for good Karma! Nimbus’ angle on Drum’n’Bass music was inspired by a 6 month DJ’ing stint in Brazil’s thriving Sao Paulo music scene, after which he returned home to produce his debut album “Genre Deconstruction”. Based on a concept of converging rock, reggae, and D’n’B, the album was released on Moscow’s Schum label in 2005 to an emerging Russian D’n’B scene. More recently Nimbus has recorded and performed with Mercury music’s new Hip Hop/Reggae artist Aynzli Jones, notably supporting Ziggy Marley on his last UK tour, and can currently be caught performing around London with his live Drum & Bass band “Nimbus Formation”. A multi-instrumentalist with a thorough schooling in Hip Hop, D’n’B, and Electronica, you know with Nimbus you’re always sure to find the ruff of leading edge genre convergence, along with the smooth of the more traditional elements of guitar and piano instrumentation, and for that we take our hat off to him!
